Arctic ice fishing experience in Pello, Lapland with a local professional guide
Join us for an unforgettable 2-hour ice fishing adventure in Pello, the the Fishing Capital of Finland in Lapland, with the Uusitalo family. This experience offers an easy and authentic way to learn about winter fishing. The Uusitalo family has been fishing in this area during winter for over 100 years. Ice fishing takes place on a frozen river, and just getting to the fishing spot is an adventure — you’ll travel comfortably in a sleigh pulled by a snowmobile, enjoying the scenic ride as a passenger while your guide handles the driving.
The main fish species in winter include perch, pike, and burbot. Your guide will share fascinating insights about fishing on the Tornio River and also explains the various fishing methods used. The holes for ice fishing will be drilled using an electric auger, and the guide will help you select suitable lures and teach you ice fishing techniques. An ice fishing fish finder / ice fishing bundle is also available for use during the trip. Warm drinks and biscuits are served, and sausages will be grilled over an open fire in the cozy warmth of a fire sleigh, where you can warm up if needed.
What is included in the ice fishing experience?
- A 2-hour guided ice fishing trip with a professional Finnish fishing guide
- Transportation in a snowmobile-pulled sleigh to the fishing site (you will ride as a passenger, enjoying the scenery)
- Ice fishing equipment: rods, ice auger, baits, and seat pad
- Thermal overalls, winter boots, gloves, and hats
- Refreshments:

* Sausages grilled over an open fire (subject to weather conditions)
What is NOT included?
- The price does not include a pick-up. A separate pick-up service can be arranged from Pello for an additional fee with a local taxi company. Please contact us for a price estimate if pick-up is required.
